What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Therapy is a dynamic and gentle technique that works with the muscles and connective tissue to activate healing in the body, and give substantial relief from specific injuries and a range of other health issues. Donna Sadzius has been helping people in pain using Bowen Therapy on the Sunshine Coast for over 18 years.
Bowen Therapy is the catalyst, and your body does all the fixing and gets things working in proper order again.
All sorts of injuries can be helped by Bowen Therapy, as well as acute issues and chronic problems. Gentle moves are performed to stimulate the body to heal itself. The body has its own innate healing mechanisms and Bowen revives it.
The moves are done at specific locations (on muscles, tendons, ligaments, or nerves) and deliver ‘signals’ to the nervous system, and the body then responds. The Bowen Therapy is so gentle that it can be used to treat everyone – from babies through to the elderly.

To get the best results from your Bowen Therapy session:
Don’t have any other forms of bodywork for four days before and after. Drink 2-3 litres of water (1litre per 22kg of body weight).
Avoid heavy exercise on the day of your session.
Don’t use ice or heat on the site of injury.
Wear light-weight, loose-fitting clothing that can be worked through.
How many Bowen Therapy treatments will be needed?
This varies from person to person. With children and acute injuries 1-2 sessions are all that is generally needed. In chronic cases there is the initial 2-4 sessions followed by monthly Bowen Balances. These monthly sessions will eventually get longer in between as the body rebalances to a more relaxed state of well-being.
Can Bowen Therapy be undertaken with conventional therapies?
Bowen is a ‘complementary’ modality in the sense that it enhances and complements, but does not interfere with, traditional medical treatment. In contrast to other hands-on modalities, where the practitioner imposes correction on the client through manipulation, Bowen facilitates the body in healing itself, with minimal intervention. Because of the subtle nature of Bowen Therapy, and the body’s continuing response to it over several days afterwards. As i said previously, other forms of manipulative therapy are discouraged for up to five days after a session, as they may interfere with the efficacy of the work.
